In 2016 FirstComm implemented IDI Billing CostGuard, deploying the IDI Billing CostGuard cloud-architected billing, workflow, tax and OSS service under a long-term contract. The implementation is categorized as OSS/BSS and targeted FirstComm's commercial billing and order management operations.
The deployment configured core modules for recurring and usage billing, order management integration, workflow orchestration and tax computation, with IDI Billing CostGuard providing invoice generation and billing rating capabilities aligned with telecom BSS functionality. The solution was delivered via IDI's cloud-service architecture to centralize transaction processing and automate complex telecom billing workflows.
Selection followed a lengthy due diligence process and total cost of ownership analysis, and was triggered by FirstComm's acquisition of Comcast's CIMCO unit, which had migrated to IDI's CostGuard cloud-service in 2012, giving FirstComm direct visibility into live operations. Operational scope included support for FirstComm's network footprint of more than 600 on-net wire centers and its customer base exceeding 35,000, affecting finance, billing operations, order management and customer service functions.
Governance for the program was contractual and strategic, executed under a long-term services agreement with IDI Billing Solutions and informed by vendor bench expertise cited by FirstComm leadership, with rollout planning emphasizing automation of transaction complexity and standardization of billing workflows. The deployment positioned IDI Billing CostGuard to address ongoing billing, tax and OSS requirements while enabling FirstComm to focus on customer facing initiatives and marketing efforts.
FirstComm and IDI characterized the engagement as a multi year partnership intended to increase operational efficiencies and capitalize on market opportunities, with IDI committing OSS and billing automation capabilities to support FirstComm's growth and marketing initiatives. No explicit cost, ROI or phased rollout metrics were disclosed.
