In 2016, GE HealthCare ran the HackerEarth Platform to host a HealthHack hackathon in India, leveraging the vendor hosted event infrastructure to crowdsource digital healthcare solutions from internal stakeholders and external developer communities. The program targeted innovation and HR objectives, positioning the HackerEarth Platform as a mechanism for Employee Engagement and skills-based problem solving across GE HealthCare teams in India.
Implementation used the HackerEarth hackathon and Sprint platform capabilities for challenge definition, participant registration, submission management, judging workflow orchestration, and finalist shortlisting, enabling structured intake and handoff of prototype workstreams. The implementation focused on internal engagement and crowdsourced innovation modules of the HackerEarth Platform, aligning challenge design with clinical and operational problem statements from GE HealthCare stakeholders.
Operational scope centered on India with participation from internal GE HealthCare teams and external developer cohorts, and governance relied on program-level stakeholder review and finalist selection processes. The HealthHack program produced three winning prototypes that GE HealthCare worked with to develop further, demonstrating a direct pathway from Employee Engagement activity to internal innovation workstreams.
GE HealthCare used HackerEarth Platform for Employee Engagement to connect HR led engagement objectives with innovation and product development functions, embedding hackathon driven intake and prototype maturation into existing governance and stakeholder collaboration routines.

| HealthEdge Software | Legacy | HealthRules Payer | Core Admin Processing System | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2019 | 2019 |
In 2019 GE HealthCare began configuring HealthRules Payer from HealthEdge Software as a Core Admin Processing System, initiating a multi-year program of functional onboarding and integration. The work documented spans Aug 2019 through Jul 2021 and centers on payer-side administration for Medicare and Medicaid programs, with explicit responsibilities for EDI compliance, data submission, and risk adjustment reporting.
HealthRules Payer was configured to support core payer modules including claims adjudication workflows, membership maintenance, provider contract loading, and authorization processing. Specific functional elements implemented include a Notice of Authorization workflow within revenue cycle management, an Authorization GDP module, provider contract templates for loading to HealthRules, and membership maintenance processes consistent with EDI 834-file handling.
Integrations were executed to align HealthRules Payer with existing interoperability stacks, including EDI X12 transactions and HIPAA code sets, HL7 message segment translation to EPIC, and EDI 834-file loads to FACETS through a membership maintenance sub-system. Workstreams also interfaced with Medicaid Management Information System MMIS for Medicaid claims resolution and with Metavance for online and batch claims adjudication, case management, member administration, provider network management, and reporting.
Governance and delivery followed formal SDLC practices, with facilitated JAD sessions to map business flows and identify impacts to service oriented architectures, creation of EDI companion guides and payer contact lists, development of detailed EDI testing work plans, and execution of user acceptance testing. The engagement emphasized compliance with HIPAA transaction and code set requirements, systematic reconciliation for RAPS and risk adjustment programs, and documentation of operational procedures for ongoing payer administration on the HealthRules Payer Core Admin Processing System.
