Altair Engineering Legacy Altair Inspire 2D/3D Simulation PLM and Engineering n/a 2018 2018
In 2018, Gimatic implemented Altair Inspire as a 2D/3D Simulation tool to support product development at its Roncadelle, Italy engineering center. The deployment established Altair Inspire as the primary simulation environment used by R and D and product development teams for design validation and virtual prototyping workflows. Altair Inspire was configured to support finite element method simulations, CAD model preparation, motion and structural analysis, topology optimization, and results visualization within engineering workflows. The implementation emphasized iterative simulation-driven design, with engineers using Altair Inspire for FEM simulations referenced in product development activities across multiple product families. The simulation environment was integrated into CAD and prototyping workflows and used to define test protocols and supplier engineering requirements, supporting cross-functional collaboration with supply chain, production, quality, and marketing. Engineers applied Altair Inspire outputs directly in supplier discussions, prototype builds, and test definition processes, and the tool fed into technical materials used by the sales network for product positioning and trade show support. Governance and rollout centered on engineering ownership, with R and D engineers responsible for simulation standards, model libraries, and training of the internal engineering and sales teams. Altair Inspire supported product development from concept through launch for electromechanical, pneumatic, and magnetic gripping systems, vacuum generators, and collaborative robotics prototypes, and it was used in activities linked to patent drafting and product launch preparation.
