In 2017 Gosiger implemented IFS Field Service Management (FSM) as a Field Service Management platform to modernize its service operations across a 90 year old, family owned machine tool distribution and manufacturing solutions business operating in 13 states. The implementation targeted the company’s service organization, which includes 185 field technicians within a 493 employee firm, and was supported by consulting from Jolt Consulting Group with SI/VAR services provided by ProV International.
The deployment focused on core Field Service Management capabilities, including optimized scheduling and dispatch, mobile field execution on smartphones, management of emerging service contracts for preventative and predictive maintenance, enhanced call intake to capture incomplete job data, and KPI consolidation to a small, consistent set of performance measures. Configuration emphasized a user interface suitable for schedulers to replace whiteboard practices, mobile workflows that removed the need for laptops and Wi Fi at customer sites, and GPS data capture to improve field visibility.
Gosiger phased the rollout by division to manage customization and integration complexity, starting with the division requiring the least change before bringing the larger groups online, and maintained dual processing with existing ERP workflows for about one month to reduce operational risk. IFS Field Service Management integrated with Gosiger’s ERP for parts and warehouse coordination, and the implementation accommodated division specific integrations where required.
Governance and adoption were driven by a cross functional training team led by a dedicated project manager, role based documentation produced by representatives from parts, call center, scheduling, and field teams, a mix of on site and WebEx training, and local champions in each office to provide peer support. The phased approach and hands on support addressed variable user readiness and reinforced new scheduling and call intake processes.
The implementation produced an explicit capacity outcome, enabling Gosiger to accommodate an additional 2.6 million dollars in service revenue from 2017 to 2018, and the company planned further modernization by moving to the next version of IFS Field Service Management and layering on technologies such as augmented reality to extend contract based service capabilities.
