In 2016 Harrods Limited deployed Oracle MICROS Workstation 6 as its Point Of Sale platform across its retail estate in the United Kingdom. Oracle MICROS Workstation 6 supported front-of-house transaction processing and terminal operations while aligning store-level sales capture with centralized workforce scheduling and time and attendance workflows.
Operational scope centered on a five person central scheduling team responsible for creating and checking rotas for up to 2,000 retail employees at all levels. The scheduling team used the system to advise store managers on practical application of overtime, holiday allocations, and working time policies to manage direct payroll expense, and provided regular operational feedback into HR and Payroll processes. A business expert maintained system ownership for scheduling and was responsible for training new starters in the use of the scheduling and time and attendance system Kronos.
Implementation configuration emphasized standard Point Of Sale capabilities including terminal configuration, transaction routing, and shift-level cash reconciliation, with operational alignment to workforce scheduling workflows in Kronos to reconcile shift rosters with point of sale activity. The deployment emphasized configuration at the store terminal level combined with centralized oversight of shift configuration to ensure consistent scheduling practices across sites.
Governance established a central scheduling team and a designated business expert to enforce scheduling policy, deliver training, and maintain the feedback loop to HR and Payroll, embedding scheduling controls such as overtime approval and holiday planning into operational routines. The governance model positioned scheduling as the primary operational control point linking Oracle MICROS Workstation 6 point of sale operations with workforce scheduling and payroll-facing processes.
