In 2018 Healthfirst implemented Ascend SmartTouch Accounts Payable as part of an AP Automation initiative for its Accounts Payable department. The deployment targeted invoice validation, routing, approvals, electronic storage, policy enforcement, and exception processing to centralize AP control and standardize invoice lifecycles.
The implementation included Ascend SmartTouch AIR, SmartTouch AP, and Ascend ECM solutions, configured for automated capture, data validation rules, workflow routing and multi-stage approval chains. The rollup combined Ascend’s cloud and on-premise components to provide document management, automated exception queues, and audit-ready archival.
Real-time integration for Healthfirst’s ERP was implemented to synchronize invoice status and support transactional posting from the AP workflow into the finance system. The solution orchestrated workflow state across invoice capture, validation, approvals and archive, enabling finance teams to follow a single source of truth for AP transactions.
Governance was addressed through embedded policy enforcement and exception processing workflows, shifting manual review into systemized processes and reducing paper handling. Healthfirst described the goals of reducing costs, modernizing operations, and enhancing collaboration, with the Ascend SmartTouch Accounts Payable deployment aimed at improving document visibility and control across the AP function.

In 2020 Healthfirst implemented Workday Absence Management as part of its broader Workday HCM program. Workday Absence Management serves the Absence and Leave Management needs across HR, benefits, payroll and time tracking functions for the 5,800 employee organization in the United States.
The implementation encompassed configuration of absence policies, leave types, eligibility rules and event maintenance workflows, alongside configuration of absence-related calculated fields and custom objects. The team executed configuration and prototype testing, unit testing and user acceptance testing for absence processes, aligning absence business processes with existing Workday modules such as Core HCM, Benefits, Payroll, Time Tracking and Recruiting.
Operational integration centered on linking absence event maintenance with Time Tracking and Payroll processing and on reporting that spans New Hires, Benefits, Compensation, Payroll and Recruiting. The program included creation of numerous custom reports and calculated fields, and configuration and testing of Workday Open Enrollment processes, with the client rolling out its first Benefits Annual Enrollment for all employees. Implementation validation included extensive rule verification, including review of approximately 1,000 eligibility rules, 50,000 event rules and 200 benefit programs to ensure accurate event calculations on daily event maintenance and annual enrollment.
Governance and ongoing support were formalized through day to day management of Workday business processes such as Compensation, Hiring, Performance, Security and Talent Review, plus defined test scenarios and benefits audit procedures. Staffing and sustainment were structured as continuous development, enhancement, upgrade and maintenance activities for Absence Management and adjacent modules, with the implementation team providing configuration, enhancements and operational support for absence workflows and related HR processes.

In 2008, Healthfirst implemented SS&C PowerMHS as its Core Admin Processing System to centralize claims adjudication and configuration for its health plan operations. The deployment established SS&C PowerMHS as the system of record for claims business rules, benefit definitions, and adjudication logic used by operations and product management teams across the organization.
The implementation focused on claims configuration capabilities, including rules based table driven claims processing, member benefit setup, claims editing rules, reference data management, code set administration, pre authorization guidelines, and medical policy enforcement to drive accurate claims payment. SS&C PowerMHS was configured to support benefit elements such as member cost shares, deductibles, and out of pocket maximums, and teams developed test scripts and regression suites to validate configuration against source documentation prior to production release.
The operational environment leveraged an analytics and testing toolset to support configuration analysis and troubleshooting, with staff using SQL, SAS, Alteryx, AWS, Python, and Tableau for data analysis, and Microsoft Project, SharePoint, Excel, and Access for project tracking, testing and reporting. The implementation environment also referenced claims editing and payment integrity tooling such as ClaimsXten, Cotiviti, and Optum Payment Integrity as part of operational workflows for claims validation and editing, alongside SS&C PowerMHS adjudication processes.
Governance centered on business rule change control, production validation, and audit strategies to ensure configuration integrity, with claims configuration analysts acting as SMEs to liaise between technical teams, testing groups, and business stakeholders. Release coordination, root cause analysis of configuration issues, and ongoing monitoring of automation levels in claims adjudication were formalized as part of the rollout and steady state operations, aligning Healthfirst SS&C PowerMHS Core Admin Processing System activity to claims operations and product management functions.
