| Microsoft | Legacy | Microsoft Power BI | Analytics and BI | Analytics and BI | n/a | 2016 | 2018 |
In 2016 Healthgrades deployed Microsoft Power BI as a central Analytics and BI capability, initiating a full cycle project to develop dynamic Power BI dashboards and reduce manual reporting work. The Microsoft Power BI implementation delivered product-level analytics for an infant product line and included an automated nightly publication pipeline orchestrated through Adobe Report Manager to replace manual distribution workflows that exceeded 400 hrs per month.
The program included complementary reporting modules and automation, with more than 25 SSRS reports developed and data-driven subscriptions configured to pull from SQL databases, PostgreSQL and OLAP cubes. Microsoft Power BI dashboards were built alongside SSRS assets and a Birst consumption layer, and Web Analytics was instrumented using Adobe Omniture Adhoc Analysis and Report Builder to feed visualization and attribution use cases.
Integrations explicitly tied Microsoft Power BI and reporting layers to on-premise and cloud data sources, including SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases, OLAP cubes, Adobe Report Manager, Adobe Omniture, and a Birst SaaS layer exposed to external users via IFrame. The team also aided coordination to redesign the cloud enterprise data platform and specified vendors for MDM and ETL tooling targeting S3 and EC2 based architectures, while leading discovery with product managers to identify source systems, ETL packages and manual data manipulation points.
Governance and delivery were managed using Agile practices driven by OKRs, with execution tracked in TFS and JIRA. The program orchestrated a cross-functional task force to evaluate visualization vendors, an effort that resulted in sunsetting five siloed software tools into two core platforms, and included operational administration of Tableau Server for licensing, backups, high availability, bi-annual upgrades, QA, security and hourly data refresh scheduling.
