In 2015 Helmerich & Payne implemented Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) as part of an Analytics and BI initiative to centralize rig operations and reporting. The implementation leveraged Microsoft Parallel Data Warehouse and SQL Server 2016 to establish a Rig Data Warehouse that consolidated disparate rig telemetry and operational files for analytics and operational reporting.
Development focused on ETL and presentation layers within the Microsoft BI stack, using SSIS to automate ingestion workflows and SSRS to deliver custom operational reports. The implementation included ASP.net front-end components written in C# and MVC, with HTML5, jQuery, and JavaScript used to build user-facing report surfaces, and SSAS used for analytical modeling within the data warehouse environment.
Integrations were explicitly built to load JSON schema payloads from a Web API into SQL Server 2016 via a seamless interface, and a custom process was developed to dynamically read delimited files across the entire file system and load them into the Rig Data Warehouse with no intervention. The solution environment referenced Microsoft Parallel Data Warehouse and SQL Server 2016 as core platforms, and there was exposure to Hadoop, Tableau, and custom reporting tools for extended analytics and visualization use cases.
Operational governance was adjusted to support automated ingestion and reporting, moving manual file handling into scheduled, monitored ETL pipelines and providing end users with custom SSRS reports that surfaced rig data visibility. Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) was the primary application driving data orchestration, reporting, and analytical access for rig operations and analytics teams.
