In 2019 Howmet Aerospace implemented Acronis Disaster Recovery Cloud as its Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) capability. The deployment included on-premises Acronis disaster recovery server components and distributed client agents, installed and administered by local deskside and IT operations staff supporting both business and process control networks at the Whitehall, MI site and tied into global help desk escalation workflows.
Configuration and operational modules focused on agent-based backup and recovery, disk level imaging and restore workflows, and orchestration of recovery actions consistent with DRaaS operational patterns. Administration activities included installation, troubleshooting and client upgrades, and inclusion of Acronis backup workflows in OS imaging and endpoint protection upgrade projects such as the Windows 10 migration and Symantec endpoint upgrades referenced in operational notes.
Operational coverage and systems management were coordinated with existing IT administration processes, with Acronis server and client assets tracked through Remedy IT Service Management Suite and operational user onboarding and exits managed through Oracle E-Business Suite administration. Identity and access considerations were addressed through Active Directory administration and security group maintenance, reflecting governance alignment between disaster recovery tooling and directory-based access controls.
Governance work included maintaining business process owner security lists, active directory security groups and completing security self-assessments for client health, which informed ongoing configuration and patching cycles for the Acronis Disaster Recovery Cloud deployment. The implementation positioned Acronis Disaster Recovery Cloud to operate as the DRaaS layer within Howmet Aerospace enterprise backup and recovery processes while remaining co-managed with existing ITSM and directory governance practices.
