In 2004 Industrial Bank of Korea went live on Temenos T24, completing a two-year implementation project. The deployment used Temenos CoreBanking as the primary Core Banking platform for IBK, and the project was executed jointly by IBM Korea and IBK operational teams.
The implementation focused on core account processing and transaction processing capabilities common to Core Banking deployments, including retail account management, deposit and loan processing, and payments posting workflows. Temenos T24 was configured to support high-throughput transaction volumes, aligning system design with IBK's scale of 15 million active accounts and an average of 10 million ATM and cash dispenser transactions per day.
Operational coverage was national, with Temenos T24 provisioning core services across 391 branches and integration with the bank's 2,358 ATMs and cash dispensers to service roughly 10 million customers. The architecture and channel integrations were intended to unify branch, ATM, and central processing for consistent posting and customer servicing across Korea.
Governance and rollout followed a multi-year program model with joint implementation ownership by IBM Korea and IBK, culminating in the 2004 go-live. The system now operates as IBK's centralized Core Banking platform, managing branch operations, account lifecycle, transaction clearing, and day-to-day core processing at scale.

Operational coverage for the pilot included kiosks at airports, bus terminals, hotels and shopping malls, with the solution staged for testing in IBK's technology demonstration laboratory prior to commercialization planned for 2020, demonstrating a clear Company GiGA Chain Blockchain Blockchain Platform Business Function alignment around foreign exchange and unmanned cash services.
Governance for the pilot centered on monitored transaction processing and platform level controls to prevent double spends and data corruption, with rollout sequencing managed through IBK's technology demonstration lab. The stated outcome from the pilot was a faster and more secure transaction service enabled by the monitoring system and blockchain based transaction validation.
