In 2019, Industrial Bank of Korea deployed GiGA Chain Blockchain, a Blockchain Platform, in collaboration with vendor KT Corporation to pilot a blockchain-based foreign currency exchange and unmanned exchange reservation service. The engagement focused on instrumenting distributed ledger capabilities to support customer reservations via smartphone app and PC, linked to unmanned cash exchange kiosks operated by Bellsoft.
The implementation emphasized transaction ledgering and an integrated monitoring capability to detect double transactions, corrupted data and counterfeit money related malfunctions. GiGA Chain Blockchain was configured to process and record reservation to withdrawal workflows, and to synchronize transaction state between the reservation front end and kiosk dispensing events, reflecting standard Blockchain Platform functional terminology such as immutable transaction records, consensus based state validation and audit logging.
Architecturally the deployment routed transaction data between Industrial Bank of Korea main network systems and Bellsoft unmanned kiosks through KT Corporation's blockchain platform layer, enabling secure transfer and verification of transaction events. Operational coverage for the pilot included kiosks at airports, bus terminals, hotels and shopping malls, with the solution staged for testing in IBK's technology demonstration laboratory prior to commercialization planned for 2020, demonstrating a clear Company GiGA Chain Blockchain Blockchain Platform Business Function alignment around foreign exchange and unmanned cash services.
Governance for the pilot centered on monitored transaction processing and platform level controls to prevent double spends and data corruption, with rollout sequencing managed through IBK's technology demonstration lab. The stated outcome from the pilot was a faster and more secure transaction service enabled by the monitoring system and blockchain based transaction validation.
