Microsoft Power BI work demonstrated Power Query, PowerPivot, PowerView, PowerMaps and Power Q&A, and was complemented by traditional BI artifacts including SSRS and Excel reports, multi dimensional and tabular cubes, and dashboards delivered with PowerView and PerformancePoint. Development and BI modeling activities were executed on a SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012 stack.
The proof of concept integrated Microsoft Power BI artifacts into SharePoint for content hosting and security and relied on Kerberos constrained delegation within the SharePoint 2013 farm to enable delegated access to SQL Server data models. InfoPath 2010 and 2013 forms and SharePoint 2010 workflows were used to capture inputs and automate manual business processes, and BI outputs were demoed to business stakeholders to reduce process complexity.
Operational governance was run by internal administrators who had previously designed and built the SharePoint 2010 environment, managed and led the upgrade from SharePoint 2007 to 2010, and served as project lead for an intranet rebrand. Demonstrations of Microsoft Power BI informed adoption discussions and aligned BI development with ongoing SharePoint administration and business process automation efforts.
