In 2020, Iowa State University of Science and Technology deployed OpenAthens Compass. The deployment centralized library authentication and usage analytics under the Analytics and BI category, with explicit objectives to require authenticated access, improve security, and deliver a more personalized single sign-on experience for campus users.
OpenAthens Compass was configured to provide identity aware access control, centralized SSO flows, and institution-level reporting and analytics. The implementation leveraged Compass reporting and analytics capabilities to instrument library resource usage and to surface consolidated usage dashboards for library and IT teams, aligning application-level analytics with access governance workflows.
The rollout covered university library services and associated IT identity and access management functions across the institution in the United States, and the project was supported by the OpenAthens project team at EBSCO. Governance changes emphasized authenticated access requirements and personalized SSO configuration, while operational ownership resided with library and campus IT groups to manage ongoing analytics, access policies, and reporting cadence.

In 2025, Iowa State University of Science and Technology is piloting Nemetschek dTwin to create a dynamic and interactive build environment. The pilot uses digital twins of each planned structure with dashboard visualizations for monitoring and data analysis, leveraging Nemetschek dTwin as a Building Information Modeling platform to support facilities planning and construction visualization.
The implementation concentrates on digital twin modeling, sensor telemetry ingestion, real time monitoring dashboards, and 3D model visualization. Configuration work includes linking 3D assets to live sensor feeds and time series data for air quality and energy consumption, and establishing data analysis workflows and visualization layers inside Nemetschek dTwin.
Operational scope is currently a campus pilot centered on the construction of a 3D printed shed instrumented with live sensors, the shed providing real time data about air quality and energy consumption. The project will progress with the shed construction, using the build stage as a testbed for sensor calibration, data routing, and validation of the digital twin against physical conditions.
Governance emphasis is on staged pilot controls, model version management, sensor data governance, and delivery of stakeholder dashboards for facilities and research teams. Rollout planning centers on iterative validation of sensor feeds and dashboard visualizations within Nemetschek dTwin before any broader campus adoption.
