In 2014, Julius Silvert, Inc. deployed NECS entree as its Distribution ERP to support core distribution and warehouse operations across the company. The NECS entree implementation was positioned as the central transactional system for order processing, inventory control, and ERP feature sets, and it was maintained and enhanced under the IT manager responsible for systems strategy and operational alignment.
The NECS entree implementation included targeted reprogramming of ERP features to align software behavior with existing business processes, and work on a warehouse management system project to extend distribution functionality. The IT team refactored code and optimized the virtual server environment that hosted NECS entree, which reduced server load and lowered infrastructure footprint while preserving application availability.
NECS entree was implemented alongside other operational applications, with Appian and PeopleNET logistics solutions brought into the application ecosystem to address business process orchestration and fleet or logistics telemetry respectively. Network and infrastructure changes accompanied the deployment, including Cisco ASA5505 firewall management, HP ProCurve switches, a UNIX based employee web monitoring solution, a cloud and on-site backup strategy, and a cloud based VoIP telephony rollout.
Governance and process changes were formalized during the NECS entree program, driven by ITIL practices and new Data Governance processes to ensure data integrity for the company data warehouse. Group policies were redesigned to improve security and auditability, IT reporting processes were established, and staff hiring and training were managed to support ongoing operation and continuous improvement of the Distribution ERP environment.
The deployment period included explicit operational and financial outcomes that were tracked by IT, including documented annual savings of more than $145,000, a 71% reduction in server load and a 23% reduction in server cost following refactoring and infrastructure changes, and management of a technology budget of up to $1.7 million. NECS entree remained a maintained and evolving component of the company application stack, with ERP feature enhancements focused on improving software productivity and aligning with business goals.
