| SAP | Legacy | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP | SVA System Vertrieb Alexander | 2004 | 2006 |
In 2004, Karlsberg Brauerei implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to support its ERP Financial functions across the organization. The deployment centralized SAP on IBM i at the Homburg site, establishing SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as the backbone for financial accounting and core ERP workflows.
Configuration emphasized core financial modules, including general ledger and accounts payable and receivable, alongside cross functional ERP processes typical for ERP Financial implementations. Logical partition planning on IBM Power was used to separate production and test tiers, and test system provisioning was executed to validate backups and cutover steps prior to productive operation.
SVA System Vertrieb Alexander provided Multicloud Managed Services and operated a fully managed IBM Power infrastructure in the SVA Cloud, hosting Karlsberg's IBM i partitions and delivering regular patch management according to a coordinated maintenance plan. Operational activities documented during the transition included data transfer via backup tape, playback of test systems into the MCMS environment, VPN setup for test and production access, and installation of updates during off peak windows. SVA assumed 24x7 operational responsibility for backup, monitoring, reporting, service desk, service management and incident management, with a dedicated service manager coordinating the migration and ongoing operations.
Governance and operational processes were aligned to ITIL best practices, with change control and patch schedules governed by an agreed maintenance plan and the SVA service manager acting as the central contact for incident coordination. Karlsberg's IT team collaborated closely during the migration and then shifted operational focus away from hardware maintenance toward other IT priorities, while SVA provided the managed IBM i services and infrastructure flexibility that removed the need for new hardware investment.
Project execution was accelerated to address imminent hardware end of life and seasonal production risks, and the migration was completed without disruption according to customer reports. SAP ERP ECC 6.0 continued to operate on IBM i in the SVA Cloud under a managed service model, providing Karlsberg Brauerei with a stable, continuously operated ERP Financial environment.
