Manufacturing Action Group Legacy WinMAGI ERP Manufacturing ERP ERP Services and Operations n/a 2017 2017
In 2017 Keiser Corporation deployed WinMAGI ERP as part of a broader Manufacturing ERP infrastructure modernization at its Fresno, California factory. The implementation centered on virtualizing servers and storage to protect business and manufacturing systems, with WinMAGI ERP running as one of 22 production virtual machines supporting operations, email, and file services. Keiser configured a three node hyperconverged storage cluster using StorMagic SvSAN 6TB Gold software installed on three Tyan servers, each with two CPUs and 128GB memory. VMware vSphere 5.5 Essentials Plus Kit was used as the hypervisor, and SvSAN provided shared storage with 2.5TB usable SvSAN storage per pair of nodes configured for RAID 6. Primary replication and iSCSI traffic ran over 10GbE links, while backups were directed to a standalone SEP Sesam server over a 1GbE network. The deployment placed each Tyan server at a distant corner of the factory to reduce the likelihood of a single disaster affecting all nodes, and the cluster served 22 VMs running NetWare 5, SLES, and Windows workloads including Mercury Email, Novell file sharing, and WinMAGI ERP software. The configuration eliminated the need for an external RAID array or SAN and centralized storage availability for manufacturing, IT operations, and plant floor systems. Governance and operational benefit focused on high availability and maintainability, enabling automated restart of virtual machines on remaining nodes in the event of a server failure and allowing hardware maintenance without planned downtime. The design preserved plant continuity for manufacturing functions, reduced equipment footprint, and provided resiliency against component failures and localized disasters.
