In 2024, Knox Public Health optimized eClinicalWorks RCM within its cloud EHR environment. Knox Public Health is a 21-provider public health agency and federally qualified health center that delivers medical, dental, and counseling services, and it implemented eClinicalWorks RCM as its Revenue Cycle Management solution to strengthen billing and claims operations.
The implementation centered on eClinicalWorks RCM optimization services, including configuration of automated claim creation and electronic submission workflows, denial management processes, and unposted payment reconciliation. The engagement established a targeted setup for Medicaid claim processing, addressing a backlog and enabling automation of routine billing tasks to increase throughput for in-house billers and practice administrators.
Operationally the RCM deployment was integrated with the eClinicalWorks cloud EHR and practice management functions to unify clinical documentation with billing workflows. The scope covered front-office and billing desk operations across clinical service lines, enabling coordinated handling of claims for medical, dental, and counseling encounters and streamlining the paths from encounter capture to claim submission.
Governance and process changes emphasized standardizing claims routing, exception handling, and daily reconciliation to reduce manual rework. Outcomes reported by Knox Public Health and eClinicalWorks include drastically reduced claim denial rates, a substantial decrease in outstanding claims and unposted payments, submission of more than 1,400 previously stuck Medicaid claims, and an improved first pass acceptance rate reported at 98 percent or more after optimization.
