In 2022, Kyndryl implemented SAP S/4HANA Cloud as a greenfield ERP Financial platform on Microsoft Azure, beginning design in February and starting deployment in March. The initiative followed a platform-based architecture strategy that targeted consolidation of SAP related capabilities and a large estate of business applications into a unified SAP ecosystem.
The SAP S/4HANA Cloud implementation was focused on core finance and commercial workflows, with the platform handling contracting, ordering, billing, invoicing, accounting, and procurement. Kyndryl moved the Finance organization onto the new SAP S/4HANA Cloud platform and operationalized quote to cash processes across an initial 25 countries followed by an additional 41 countries, reducing 375 previously disparate SAP related applications into a single, unified SAP on Azure platform.
Architecturally the deployment was a greenfield S/4HANA implementation on Microsoft Azure, leveraging Azure Storage, Azure Monitor, and Azure network security as foundational services and applying Azure high availability patterns. Microsoft provided SAP specialists, product engineering input, and Azure solutions architecture support during an 18 month development, deployment, and adoption cycle, with the solution architecture going live about a year after deployment began.
Governance and operationalization included creation of an internal SAP Center of Excellence and joint work with SAP to codevelop a SAP Business Transformation Center, aligning delivery practices to enable repeatable customer engagements. The platform rollout covered Finance as the initial operational scope and was coordinated alongside company wide adoption of Microsoft 365 elements such as Power BI, Outlook, and Teams, positioning Kyndryl to offer the same SAP on Azure provisioning, build, deploy, and manage services to its customers.

The Workday HCM implementation delivered core modules including Workday Job architecture and Position Management, ATS integration points, Projects, Adaptive Planning, Prism Analytics, Talent management, Advanced Compensation, and Learning. Workday HCM was configured to enforce globally consistent practices while enabling AI enabled talent optimization and standardized job and position workflows across HR functional processes.
Architecturally the program combined Workday HCM with SAP Finance and Operations platforms to create digital end to end workflows, and it introduced a cloud based HR Service Delivery platform that unified HR, IT, and operations. The HR Services case management, knowledge and employee center was launched as an integrated layer providing real time support and connectivity between HR transaction systems and IT and operational teams.
Governance and rollout were managed as a centralized HR strategy and systems program led from the SVP HR Strategy, Systems and Services function, including enterprise change management and a knowledge management strategy to ensure compliance and consistency. The accelerated Workday deployment delivered Job architecture and Position Management and the broader module set in under 18 months, and the program successfully exited the TSA on time and on budget.
