In 2014, Lavans implemented PTV Smartour. PTV Smartour was introduced as a Fleet Management application to drive route optimization and trip planning for the delivery and return of products across Lavans service and planning operations in Helmond.
The deployment focused on core route optimization and trip scheduling capabilities, configured to ensure optimal occupation of service employees and mechanics. Functional configuration covered route optimization algorithms, trip sequencing and scheduling, and operational fleet management tasks such as lease and hire administration and oversight of MOT and LPK maintenance activities, with PTV Smartour used as the central planning engine.
The implementation established operational links between planning and the commercial disciplines, positioning PTV Smartour to coordinate workflows across sales, the commercial office and production, and to support day to day service coordination. The Lavans PTV Smartour Fleet Management deployment served the planning, service and operations business functions, aligning field service assignments with transport availability and maintenance schedules.
Governance and rollout were owned by the service and planning organization, with the Service Coordinator leading the optimizing routes project, identifying bottlenecks, mapping critical aspects for stakeholders, and embedding new planning responsibilities. The implementation also aligned with workforce governance activities, including coordination of Code 95 requirements and performance and assessment processes for service employees.
