| Onit | Legacy | OnitX ELM | Legal Practice Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2022 | 2022 |
In 2022, Littler Mendelson implemented OnitX ELM as its Legal Practice Management platform to centralize billing, matter lifecycle management, and revenue accounting workflows for the firm’s billing organization. The deployment emphasized consolidation of invoice intake, matter-level financial data capture, and workflow orchestration to support high-volume legal billing operations and revenue accounting functions.
OnitX ELM was configured to support core Legal Practice Management capabilities including e-billing intake and validation, invoice authoring and electronic submission, automated invoice routing and approval workflows, matter and client data capture, and WIP and AR monitoring. Configuration aligned to legal billing practices included rate approval controls, exception handling for client e-billing rules, and support for insurance-paid billing scenarios such as reductions, rejections, and appeals.
The implementation integrated with incumbent legal financial and time systems that the billing organization used for transactional activities, including Elite for matter and billing records, DTE | Intapp Time for time capture, ARCS and E-Billing Hub for revenue and e-billing orchestration, and a range of client-facing e-billing platforms such as Tracker, Tymetrix, Passport, Collaborati, CounselGo, CounselLink, and Corridor. These integrations enabled OnitX ELM to act as a central processing layer for invoice routing, e-billing compliance enforcement, and data extraction for accounting and reconciliation tasks.
Governance changes accompanying the rollout focused on standardizing invoice review and rate approval workflows, formalizing exception and appeals handling for insurer payments, and documenting transactional and ad-hoc billing activities to ensure compliance with firm policies and client e-billing requirements. Operational ownership remained within the firm’s billing and revenue accounting teams, with OnitX ELM instrumented to support coordinator-level tasks such as invoice issuance, WIP control, AR reconciliation, and client-specific billing rule enforcement.
