ABB Enterprise Software Group Legacy ABB Ability Marine Remote Diagnostic System Asset Performance Management ERP Services and Operations n/a 2024 2026
In 2024, MaineDOT selected ABB Enterprise Software Group to supply a grid-to-propeller hybrid-electric ferry solution that includes the ABB Ability Marine Remote Diagnostic System. The ABB Ability Marine Remote Diagnostic System is being deployed as an asset/operations (Asset Performance Management) implementation to monitor onboard systems and instrument propulsion and powertrain telemetry on vessels serving the Lincolnville–Islesboro route in the United States. This positions the ABB Ability Marine Remote Diagnostic System as MaineDOT's asset/operations (Asset Performance Management) tool supporting ferry operations and maintenance, with instrumentation focused on remote diagnostics and condition monitoring within the hybrid-electric vessel architecture. Functionally the implementation emphasizes continuous system monitoring, remote diagnostics, and predictive maintenance capabilities to maximize vessel uptime and support decarbonisation goals by enabling higher operational availability. Operational coverage is explicitly the Lincolnville–Islesboro route and the associated ferry vessels, impacting operations, engineering, and maintenance functions through integration of diagnostic alerts into maintenance planning and availability workflows. Governance and operational processes are being adjusted to accept remote diagnostic outputs into routine maintenance scheduling and operational decision making, aligning diagnostic telemetry with ferry commissioning and service timetables.
