In 2016, MBIA implemented Microsoft Dynamics AX as its ERP Financial platform. The deployment focused on finance and treasury operations, centralizing accounts receivable, cash management, invoicing, premium postings, and general ledger reconciliation across MBIA National Public Finance and MBIA Corp entity.
Microsoft Dynamics AX was configured to leverage the Dynamics AX A/R module for automated cashbook entries and to centralize GL posting workflows. Functional capabilities implemented included automated accounts receivable posting, cash application logic, invoice and premium posting workflows, and ERP Financial general ledger interfaces with tailored configuration to meet insurance and municipal finance posting requirements.
The technical architecture combined a Microsoft .Net MVC front end with Bootstrap HTML5 and CSS3 for UI components, Oracle as a core transaction repository for back-end processing, and MS SQL Server plus SSIS for ETL and data orchestration. Integrations explicitly implemented included Microsoft Dynamics AX A/R for cashbook automation, Infor XM for travel and expense tracking, and automated rating data feeds from Moody's and S&P into Oracle, with SSIS and .Net C# components orchestrating those feeds and transformations.
Governance and operational control were managed through MBIA's Enterprise Data Management Committee and architecture committee, with the senior solution architect serving as CIO liaison and providing regular updates to the CFO and IT leadership. Process and rollout practices included full lifecycle project portfolio management, peer-to-peer Techpro sessions for developer knowledge sharing, and offshore team mentoring to enforce MBIA database and application standards.
The program was executed and sustained as an enterprise application initiative beginning in 2016, with continuous application management and integration work coordinated by the IT architecture team through at least 2022. MBIA Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP Financial integration activities were explicitly aligned with finance, treasury, and surveillance business functions.
