| Microsoft | Legacy | Microsoft Dynamics GP | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2003 | 2003 |
In 2003, McCormick & Schmick's implemented Microsoft Dynamics GP as its ERP Financial system. The deployment supported accounting operations for seven restaurants across four states, centralizing month-end entries and reconciliations, property tax recording, sales tax processing, lease agreement tracking, and rent calculations. The accounting team designated a Microsoft Dynamics GP super-user who led configuration efforts and served as the liaison with IT.
Microsoft Dynamics GP was configured to support core ERP Financial workflows, including general ledger structure, accounts payable and receivable processing, bank reconciliation procedures, and tax posting controls typical of restaurant accounting. Automation was extended through custom macros in both Microsoft Dynamics GP and Excel to standardize journal entry templates, reconciliation routines, and rent calculation logic. The super-user developed and delivered training to accounting staff, embedding those automated procedures into the regular close cadence.
Governance centered on the accounting department owning close controls, tax postings, and lease calculation rules, with change coordination routed through the super-user and IT. The documented procedural changes and macro-driven automation shortened the period-end close by several days and centralized accounting and tax operations within Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP Financial for McCormick & Schmick's.
