In 2017, Medica Health Plans implemented AppWorx Workload Automation from Broadcom as a Business Process Management platform within its IT Data Delivery and Operations organization. The deployment supported production support, change management and incident management activities based out of the Minnetonka, MN operations center and was positioned to orchestrate managed file transfer and ETL workflows for the enterprise.
AppWorx Workload Automation was configured to manage scheduled job orchestration and automated workflow execution, with specific focus on MFT orchestration and batch scheduling. The implementation included configuration of job dependencies, calendar and windowing rules, and operational runbooks consistent with Business Process Management use cases to standardize recurring data movement and integration tasks.
Integrations were explicit and operational, the AppWorx implementation worked alongside Cleo for MFT processing, Automic (UC4) for automated scheduling artifacts, and Informatica for ETL and deployment activities, with Medica staff providing daily administration across these systems. The operational scope emphasized production operations, incident resolution and coordination with business stakeholders to align technical schedules with business data delivery needs.
Governance and process changes were formalized through Agile and Scrum practices, with sprint planning, daily scrums, and sprint reviews embedded in the delivery cadence.
