In 2014, Molded Fiber Glass Companies implemented Sage 500 ERP (formerly MAS 500) as its centralized ERP Financial platform across its manufacturing operations. The program was led by implementation partner e2b teknologies and addressed a prior patched together, unsupported ERP environment that constrained reporting, fixed asset management, payroll, and manufacturing visibility.
The Sage 500 ERP deployment emphasized manufacturing and accounting modules, project accounting, quoting and estimating, and integration with CAD-driven job processes. e2b teknologies delivered the e2b 500 supply chain enhancements including Enhanced Labor Entry, Sales Forecasting, and Enhanced MRP, and implemented a work breakdown structure report for government contracts to support project accounting and bills of material. The installation was intentionally standardized to minimize customizations while allowing site-level tailoring for distinct operations such as job shop radome fabrication and large blade manufacturing.
Integrations were a core element of the implementation, with an EDI engine built to support automotive and heavy truck customers including Freightliner line sequencing, automatic purchase order generation, and advance shipment notifications. The solution included a manufacturing execution interface from MFG’s Barcom system into Sage 500 ERP, time clock and production job integrations feeding Sage Abra for payroll, and Sage FAS for fixed asset management. e2b provided the custom development for these integrations and a fixed maintenance and support plan for ongoing upgrades and enhancements.
Operationally the rollout targeted most of MFG’s 16 U.S. and Mexico facilities with the North Carolina plant serving as a pilot and model for companywide rollout. Each site was configured to its business function and complexity, for example North Carolina used complex EDI line sequencing and Alabama implemented shop-floor time clock to production job capture. Governance included standardized configuration templates, tailored site-level configurations, and a maintenance plan to budget and schedule upgrades and support.
Specified outcomes from the engagement included restored competitive access to Freightliner business, winning a multimillion dollar contract from Daimler, avoidance of a potential plant shutdown in North Carolina, and companywide standardization on a supported ERP Financial platform. Implementation-level benefits reported by MFG included improved visibility into production costs, inventory and scheduling, automated labor and order entry that reduced manual error, and system capabilities to cost work orders and drill into transactions in months when issues are found.
