In 2020, NZSki implemented Fiix by Rockwell Automation as its Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) solution. The deployment targeted Mt Hutt operations and a maintenance department of six staff who are responsible year round for ski lifts, magic carpets, snow making equipment, pumps, compressors, grooming fleet, winches, buses, the day lodge, and water and waste systems, effectively treating the alpine site as a small town maintenance environment.
The Fiix by Rockwell Automation implementation centralized preventive maintenance and reactive work order processes using core CMMS capabilities. Preventive maintenance schedules were configured as PMs with automated triggers, task lists were used to populate PMs and work orders with standard operating procedures, and permanent asset records were established to capture full maintenance history. Reporting and dashboards were enabled to allow fast queries by asset or category and to remove manual compilation of disparate data sources.
The solution was provisioned as a cloud based service and used across mobile and internet devices, enabling technicians to update work orders from smartphones. QR code scanning was planned to accelerate field access to asset records and work orders. Operational coverage remained focused on the maintenance function at Mt Hutt, consolidating work request intake, paper work orders, and Excel tracking into a single system of record without introducing named third party system integrations.
Governance and process changes centralized continuity of information beyond seasonal staffing, moving the organization toward more proactive maintenance planning. NZSki signed an annual subscription for Fiix by Rockwell Automation and reported reduced manual reporting effort, citing at least one day saved when preparing annual metrics, increased on time completion of PMs, progress toward an 80/20 proactive to reactive ratio, and more reliable scheduling of safety inspections.
