In 2022 National Bank of Kuwait implemented IDEMIA Card Personalization Services to issue the NBK KWT Visa Infinite metal card, establishing a Card Personalization capability for consumer card issuance and activation. The deployment was centered on delivering an intuitive activation flow and high quality metal card personalization tailored for Kuwaiti customers, including two vertical designs and national imagery.
IDEMIA Card Personalization Services was configured to support physical card personalization and to enable IDEMIA Card Connect NFC activation functionality, allowing cardholders to tap the metal card on a smartphone and be redirected to the activation page on the NBK Mobile Banking App. The implementation supported card-level configuration for reward earning options, enabling customers to select between a Spends Tier or Merchant Category accrual model, and integrated the personalized card lifecycle with NBK Online Banking to allow redemption of points for cashback travel bookings e-vouchers and points exchange.
The solution integrated directly with NBK Mobile Banking App for activation and with NBK Online Banking for reward redemption, operating under the Consumer Banking Group in Kuwait as a first of its kind NFC activation offering in the market. Apex International Trading Company acted as a regional facilitator between IDEMIA and NBK during rollout. The project emphasis was on streamlining activation and improving payment experience, with IDEMIA Card Personalization Services and Card Connect reducing card activation time significantly while embedding personalization and reward controls into NBK’s card issuance workflow.

The deployment positioned Ripple Blockchain as a customer-facing payment layer for immediate remittances and an on-demand settlement channel available online 24/7.
The implementation delivered functional capabilities typical of a Blockchain Platform, including live payment settlement, frictionless remittance routing across a permissioned payments network, and customer initiation workflows for instant cross-border transfers. NBK Direct Remit was provisioned as an online remittance service for retail customers, enabling transfers within seconds and supporting live payments to Jordan at launch with plans to expand to additional corridors.
Operationally the rollout leveraged RippleNet connectivity to move live payments on behalf of NBK customers and to connect to other RippleNet partners for broader payout reach. Governance and operational oversight were anchored in NBK Group Operations and Technology, reflecting an enterprise approach to manage payment orchestration, network onboarding for correspondent partners, and continuous expansion of international corridors across NBK’s presence in 15 countries.
The deployment emphasized improvements to cross-border payments and remittance experience, delivering fast, customer-accessible transfers and enabling NBK to extend a global payments capability via Ripple Blockchain. The bank signaled continued adoption of RippleNet to connect to more partners so customers can make quicker and cheaper payments worldwide.
