| Epic Systems | Legacy | EPIC EHR | Electronic Health Record | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2021 | 2021 |
In 2021 National Healthcare Group implemented EPIC EHR to standardize medication ordering and pharmacy workflows across its outpatient polyclinics and associated hospital services, within the Electronic Health Record category. The initiative centered on pharmacy medication management and prescribing controls to align prescribers and pharmacy staff across NHG institutions.
The deployment focused on configuration and governance of the EPIC EHR prescribing and medication management capabilities, including review and update of drug context records, medication ordering guidelines, medication reconciliation workflows, and ambulatory care service workflows such as anticoagulation and smoking cessation clinics. Pharmacy teams performed iterative reviews of EPIC drug contexts and compiled drug reference charts to ensure clinical content consistency within the system.
Operational coverage included Kallang Polyclinic pharmacy operations, a central fill and medication delivery workgroup, and processes supporting Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital patient medication supply. Cross-institution prescribing harmonization work was coordinated through the Medication Management and Usage Committee, with proposals for new Epic builds to address gaps identified by clinical staff.
Governance and process changes were driven by a medication safety workgroup and the NHG HARM reduction collaborative, which updated medication safety standard operating procedures in accordance with ESS standards. A drug information pharmacist co-led efforts from April 2022 to prepare drug information circulars, vet pharmacist responses to enquiries, and produce monthly clinical intervention reports to inform ongoing EPIC EHR configuration and SOP refinements.
