Workday Legacy Workday Benefits Benefits Administration HCM n/a 2021 2021
In 2021, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory implemented Workday Benefits as part of its broader Workday ecosystem and centralized benefits technology approach. Workday Benefits now functions within an environment that includes Recruiting, Human Capital Management, Learning, Time Tracking, Payroll, Talent, and Compensation, and the implementation is administered by dedicated Workday HRIS practitioners responsible for configuration, testing, and ongoing platform stewardship. Workday Benefits configuration included development and maintenance of eligibility rules, benefits enrollment workflows, and custom report logic using calculated fields. NREL’s team focused on building self service business processes and automated workflows to support newly developed HR programs and modernization of existing benefits processes, while maintaining data integrity and security through audit reporting and systematic troubleshooting procedures. Integrations were delivered using Workday delivered integration options and advanced reporting techniques to generate data transport pipelines to NREL benefit providers and other downstream systems, and to support recurring regulatory filings such as EEO and ACA. The Workday Benefits implementation operates in close functional linkage with Payroll and Time Tracking, ensuring benefit eligibility and deductions align with compensation and hours data flows across the HRIS landscape. Governance activities include biannual Workday release management coordinated across business unit process owners who test, validate, and prioritize new features into an enhancement backlog. The program applies business analyst discipline to gather requirements and to direct third party Workday consultants for new capability rollouts, while also delivering end user training and reporting to HR leadership and cross lab governance bodies to preserve accuracy and compliance in Benefits Administration.
