Siemens Digital Industries Software Legacy Siemens Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management PLM and Engineering Clevr 2017 2017
In 2017, Nexans Norway moved its engineering and product information processes onto Siemens Teamcenter as its Product Lifecycle Management platform for the Halden cable manufacturing site. The project addressed multiple disparate and outdated IT systems that were producing unreliable product drawings and descriptions for custom cable assemblies and associated end connectors used in offshore oil and gas and other sectors. CLEVR led the implementation and process design work while Accenture consultants conducted parallel organizational analysis focused on quality and competitiveness. Siemens Teamcenter was configured to centralize drawing and document management, product data management and structured engineering release workflows, with role based access for engineers, project organisers and broader read only users. The rollout plan combined organization level workshops to define the sequence of functionality adoption with a two year phased deployment in which basic data management and sharing capabilities were introduced first and additional PLM functions were added as teams adapted. Operational scope targeted engineers at Halden as primary users, project organisers as power users and company staff with read only access to standardized information, enabling cross functional sharing across design and production. Governance work established standardized working methods and workflow rules to create an auditable paper trail and reduce ad hoc shortcuts in product development processes. Siemens Teamcenter is expected to improve access to authoritative drawings and product descriptions and to increase data reliability by eliminating the need to double check information, outcomes reflected in Nexans project objectives for faster and more accurate delivery of cable solutions.
