In 2025, Nomura implemented MinIO AIStor, deploying a Cloud Storage platform for Risk IT in Japan. The project replaced an aging Hadoop storage layer to modernize risk analytics and enable S3-native data lakehouse workflows used by risk teams.
The MinIO AIStor deployment provisioned 4.5PB across 22 nodes, configured for S3 API access and object storage semantics aligned with data lakehouse architectures. MinIO AIStor was configured to support high-throughput analytics workloads, and the production system delivered a 13.9% throughput improvement while roughly doubling usable storage efficiency.
Operational coverage centered on Nomura's Risk IT organization in Japan, impacting risk analytics and risk reporting workflows. The implementation supported S3-native data lakehouse workflows and analytics tooling used by quant and reporting teams, aligning storage APIs with downstream processing and ingestion pipelines.
Deployment and rollout were managed by Nomura Risk IT, accompanied by updates to SLA monitoring and data lifecycle policies to reflect the new Cloud Storage architecture. According to Nomura's published account, the migration to MinIO AIStor improved SLA compliance for risk reporting following the cutover.
