In 2016 NTT DoCoMo implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform, engaging NTT Data as the system integrator for the program. The deployment positioned SAP S/4 HANA on the SAP HANA in-memory architecture to provide a unified financial backbone and real-time data access for transactional and reporting workloads.
The implementation focused on core ERP Financial capabilities, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial close orchestration, and HANA-powered reporting and analytics. SAP S/4 HANA was configured to centralize financial master data and enable near real-time financial consolidation and operational reporting across standard finance workflows.
Operational scope included finance and accounting functions, where standardized processes and centralized reporting replaced dispersed spreadsheets and point reporting, improving situational visibility for business stakeholders. Governance included role-based access to SAP S/4 HANA financial modules and the establishment of automated reporting workflows to support month-end and ad hoc analysis.
According to the implementation notes, with SAP HANA users can pull out the latest data whenever they need to and grasp the situation from various viewpoints, reflecting the move to on-demand financial visibility enabled by SAP S/4 HANA and the HANA database.

| NEC Corporation | Legacy | NetCracker Technology Digital Business Enablement | OSS/BSS | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2016 | 2016 |
In 2016 NEC Corporation completed deployment of network functions virtualization solutions for NTT DoCoMo using NetCracker Technology Digital Business Enablement, positioned in the OSS/BSS category. The deployment targeted DOCOMO commercial networks and is anchored on NFV architecture components provisioned by NEC and Netcracker.
The implementation included a virtualized evolved packet core, vEPC, that virtualizes LTE core functions including the mobility management entity MME, the serving gateway S-GW and the packet data network gateway P-GW. NetCracker Technology Digital Business Enablement supplied a virtual network function manager component that handles lifecycle events for virtualized network functions.
The VNF Manager from Netcracker, a wholly owned NEC subsidiary, manages creation, activation, termination and update of VNFs, providing orchestrated lifecycle control across the virtualized core. Operational coverage was explicitly commercial mobile communication service delivery, with the solution intended to support core network operations and service provisioning workflows.
On March 9 DOCOMO started providing its commercial mobile communication service using the NFV technologies, demonstrating that the NetCracker Technology Digital Business Enablement deployment was put into production for live network traffic. Governance emphasis in the implementation centers on automated VNF lifecycle management and operational process integration for core network functions.

| VMware by Broadcom | Legacy | VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA | AI infrastructure | AI Development | n/a | 2024 | 2025 |
In 2024, NTT DoCoMo positioned VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA as part of its AI infrastructure roadmap. NTT DoCoMo has deployed VMware Cloud Foundation as part of its infrastructure modernization, and Broadcom highlights the carrier as a major VMware Cloud Foundation customer in the Asia region, creating the platform context for private AI initiatives.
The VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA framing for AI infrastructure implies deployment patterns centered on GPU accelerated model hosting, orchestration and model lifecycle management. Typical functional capabilities aligned to this architecture include model training and inference serving, model versioning and rollback, Kubernetes based orchestration, GPU resource scheduling, secure model serving endpoints, and role based access and identity controls to meet carrier security requirements.
Operational integration builds on the existing VMware Cloud Foundation deployment and NVIDIA GPU acceleration to consolidate compute and virtualization layers for telco workloads in Japan, with explicit business function focus on network automation and customer experience engineering. Public materials confirm VMware Cloud Foundation use but do not provide a dedicated DOCOMO Private AI case study, Broadcom states VCF customers are adopting Private AI services and DOCOMO’s VCF footprint positions the carrier to leverage Private AI infrastructure for telco use cases.
Governance considerations emphasized in this implementation context center on model lifecycle controls, data access governance and deployment workflow orchestration to align with carrier change control and security processes. The narrative outlines NTT DoCoMo, VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA, AI infrastructure and the targeted telco business functions without asserting a published, product level DOCOMO Private AI deployment outcome.
