In 2018 OMP implemented NICIM MES as its Manufacturing Execution System to formalize production planning and shop floor control at O.M.P. Officine Mazzocco Pagnoni S.r.l. The initial scope covered production planning for BMW automatic lines, manual assembly lines, and aftermarket operations at the Bologna site, with operational ownership centered in the production planning function.
NICIM MES was configured to support core MES workflows including work order scheduling for production resources, monitoring and tracking orders against planned schedules, control of documentation attached to production orders, and reporting and requirements management. The implementation included ERP system parameterization activity and functional configuration to manage subcontractor work and supplier planning, reflecting category aligned capabilities for resource scheduling and shop floor execution.
Integrations were explicitly focused on ERP alignment, with NICIM MES tied into the company ERP for parameterization and analysis using the Nicim ERP management environment. Operational coverage extended across production planning, shop floor execution, supply chain coordination for subcontracted work, and aftermarket order handling, enabling cross functional data exchange between planning and execution layers.
Governance centered on process controls for documentation linked to production orders, formalized reporting and requirements workflows, and centralized work order scheduling procedures used by production planners from April 2018. In 2017 OMP implemented Simerics PumpLinx as its Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) application to support hydraulic and internal flow simulation for pump product development. The Simerics PumpLinx implementation was centered in Research and Development engineering at O.M.P. Officine Mazzocco Pagnoni S.r.l in Funo, Bologna, Italy, and targeted positive displacement and centrifugal pump design verification and optimization.
The deployment emphasized CFD calculations using Simerics PumpLinx alongside established design tools, with centrifugal pump impeller sizing performed via CFTurbo and preliminary verification and optimization executed with self developed Matlab codes. Structural analysis workflows, including static and fatigue evaluation of pump housings, were coordinated with CREO Simulate outputs, while 1D modeling was used for fast calculation of Gerotor and variable displacement oil pumps. The R&D practice also incorporated verification of spool valve designs, development of genetic algorithm code for geometry and bearing optimizations, and experimental validation of pump performance to close the simulation to test loop.
Operational coverage focused on R&D engineering activities from January 2017 through December 2019, embedding Simerics PumpLinx into routine design verification, optimization, and test correlation workflows. Governance combined simulation driven design reviews and cross tool workflows between CFD, 1D modeling, CAD based structural analysis, and bespoke optimization scripts, enabling coordinated engineering evaluation of hydraulic, mechanical, and control related subsystems.
