In 2017, Pepco Holdings, Inc. implemented Sterling Background Check to operationalize pre-hire screening across Talent Acquisition and HR processes. Sterling Background Check was deployed as the BackGround Screening application supporting candidate vetting workflows, motor vehicle record verification, DOT and non-DOT drug testing, and coordination of physical examinations and pre-employment tests.
The implementation concentrated functional modules on workflow orchestration for background investigations, MVR checks, drug screen and physical scheduling, and candidate status tracking. Sterling Background Check was used alongside pre-employment testing administration such as EEI and Physical Abilities Tests, and to capture ADA accommodation needs, new hire paperwork including I9s, EVerify checks, and W4 collection as part of onboarding processing.
Operationally the system supported Talent Acquisition coordinators across the PHI service territory, working directly with unions, corporate security, hiring managers and executives, and managing hires at scale, including cases of up to 60 concurrent new hires. Integration points documented in operational notes included Sterling Solutions and Omega Medical for screenings and physicals, with screening data and onboarding records coordinated with PeopleSoft, SAP, FileNet, Lotus Notes and Global HR systems to maintain hiring records and orientation logistics.
Governance and workflow changes centered on centralized submission and tracking of background checks, coordinated New Employee Orientation reporting delivered to HR leadership and executives, and standardized handling of verification and onboarding documentation. The narrative reflects a structured BackGround Screening deployment where Sterling Background Check was embedded into recruiting, corporate security clearances and HR onboarding workflows.

| Hitachi Vantara | Legacy | Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite | Asset Performance Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2010 | 2011 |
In 2010 Pepco Holdings, Inc. deployed the Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite as an Asset Performance Management solution to monitor, analyze and manage outage, grid and device performance across its regulated utilities. The implementation targeted operational visibility for Pepco, Delmarva Power and Atlantic City Electric, covering service territories in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and New Jersey and supporting network operations, outage management and field dispatch business functions for about 1.9 million customers.
Implementation and configuration work centered on system and database architecture to support the Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite and linked operational applications. Engineering activities included installation and configuration of Oracle 10g, 11g and 12c databases with Automatic Storage Management, construction of Data Guard standby databases and annual disaster recovery testing, and deployment of a two node RAC in Linux using OEM grid and ASM. Oracle Enterprise Manager and Oracle Streams replication were configured to support web reporting and operational dashboards, and JBoss application servers were installed to host middleware components.
Operational integrations were executed at the database and platform layer for a set of named systems that feed network operations and reporting. Managed Oracle instances included Oracle Network Management System, Oracle*SPL Business Intelligence, Mobile Dispatch System, Geospatial Information System, Obvient/MicroStrategy and Dynamic Outage Maps, along with databases for GWD, WMIS, electronic billing and power plant systems. The environment spanned Sun and Linux servers with Veritas Cluster configuration and Veritas NetBackup for system backups, establishing the platform footprint that the Asset Performance Management application operated within.
Governance and runbook practices were formalized during rollout, including RMAN and Veritas backup scripting, creation of DataDirect storage backup scripts, cron and Maestro scheduled maintenance jobs, and yearly DR recovery testing for supported applications. Operational responsibilities also encompassed database tuning and administration, Sox auditing support through scripts and reports, and coordination with vendors and user groups to resolve technical issues and refine application usability. The work included explicit performance tuning that improved database responsiveness as part of the Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite deployment.
