| IBM | Legacy | IBM Blueworks Live | Process Mining | Analytics and BI | n/a | 2016 | 2016 |
In 2016, Insperity, Inc. implemented IBM Blueworks Live as a Process Mining application to provide stakeholders with a single accurate view of business processes and to strengthen business analysis across software delivery. The rollout targeted a centralized business analysis function consisting of 20 business analysts who act as liaisons to 17 line of business managers and product owners, and to Insperity application development teams.
IBM Blueworks Live was used to standardize process discovery and process mapping, with business process modeling instituted as a core capability throughout the software delivery lifecycle. Insperity configured Blueworks Live for as is process modeling and collaborative vetting, preserving a single consolidated process repository that business analysts author and maintain, and enabling rapid visualization of touch points and interfaces that previously were only informally documented.
Operational governance established business analysts as the sole editors of process models while placing product owners in an advisory and vetting role, a structure that created accountability and consistent model quality. The program Putting the Business Back in Business Analysis formalized the practice of reviewing as is processes in Blueworks Live before scoping development work, and it integrated business analysts, product owners, scrum masters and developers into a shared modeling workflow to reduce ambiguity.
Explicit outcomes reported from the IBM Blueworks Live implementation include a reduced time to market for process changes, a single consolidated view of processes for stakeholders, and the ability for business analysts to perform process modeling at any stage of the delivery lifecycle. Teams leveraged process modeling to determine when a process tweak would suffice instead of building new software, enabling faster delivery of more accurate business applications.
