In 2015, Piedmont Natural Gas implemented Oracle PeopleSoft ERP to establish an enterprise financial backbone. The deployment focused on ERP Financial capabilities to centralize corporate finance and accounting for the 2500-employee utility headquartered in the United States.
The implementation configured Oracle PeopleSoft ERP and PeopleSoft Financials functionality to support core accounting workflows, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Asset Management, alongside cash management and period close controls. Configuration work emphasized a standardized chart of accounts, automated accounting entries for transactional flows, and role-based access and segregation of duties controls within the financial modules.
Integrations were implemented to connect Oracle PeopleSoft ERP with existing systems cited in internal skills and operations, specifically Maximo for fixed asset and maintenance cost data, CAPS online and other financial applications for transactional exchange, and Microsoft Office tools for reporting and user productivity. Operational scope covered corporate finance, accounting, treasury and asset accounting teams, with governance established through centralized configuration ownership, staged rollout and role-aligned training to align processes and financial controls with the new ERP Financial platform.

In 2012, Piedmont Natural Gas implemented Workday HCM. The Workday HCM Core HR deployment was provisioned for a 2,500 employee utility headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, using a cloud SaaS HRIS approach to consolidate employee master records and administrative workflows across the organization.
The implementation focused on Core HR capabilities, including centralized employee data management, organizational hierarchy and position management, workforce transaction processing, benefits administration, and manager and employee self service. Workday HCM was configured with role based security and standard HR reporting and analytics to support HR administration and talent management functions.
Operational coverage targeted corporate HR and people operations supporting U.S. sites, with configuration designed to standardize HR transactions and approvals between HR specialists and line managers. The deployment aligned Workday HCM workflows with existing HR processes, enabling electronic workforce changes, headcount control, and consistent personnel recordkeeping.
Governance was structured around an internal HRIS analyst function that began in February 2012, which managed configuration, security roles, and ongoing system administration. Change control and staged enablement of manager and employee self service were used to stabilize processes and embed the Core HR system into HR operational governance.

In 2017 Piedmont Natural Gas deployed Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite as its Asset Performance Management solution across production, development, and quality assurance environments. The implementation supported operational workflows that manage natural gas assets and generate compliance work, while integrating runtime dispatch inputs from CGI ARM, ABB Service Suite, and the S2K mainframe system to coordinate work scheduling and execution.
Configuration and module work focused on ARM Application Server administration and database conversion tasks, including customizing and running SQLPlus scripts, executing PL/SQL conversion scripts, and validating schema and data changes. Technical setup included installing Service Monitors, creating WebSphere Application Server profiles and WebSphere MQ accounts, configuring Oracle JDBC, and deploying and configuring war files to support application tiers and interfaces.
Integration and operations engineering covered order ingestion verification and interface testing, using TOAD to author SQL queries that confirm work orders flow into ABB Service Suite from source systems, and SOAPUI to test order information interfaces for project work. Operational data mappings were maintained by inserting records in Microsoft SQL Management Studio to associate Beacon users with operations centers, and application health was monitored across Linux consoles, Windows servers, IBM WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere MQ, and Oracle WebLogic.
Governance and runbook responsibilities included creating change requests with implementation and backout plans, presenting CRQs to the change review board CIRB, and facilitating cross-team and vendor meetings. Operational support tasks encompassed Citrix Studio configuration and troubleshooting for delivery groups and application folders, ending stuck sessions, routing alerts from Business Technology Support, and coordinating with WebMethods and other teams during root cause investigations for service disruptions.
