In 2015, PJM Interconnection implemented Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) as its Analytics and BI platform to centralize reporting and multidimensional analysis across operational functions. The team developed SSAS cubes with time-based partitions, created perspectives, named queries, calculated measures and KPIs, and produced PowerPivot charts and slicers to complement SSRS report consumption of cube data.
Data integration centered on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 as the BI engine with Oracle 10g R2 identified as an upstream data source, supporting very large database workloads. Tooling and lifecycle practices used Visual Studio 2008 and TFS, with work executed in an Agile Scrum delivery model to manage iterations and deployments.
Operational governance included production support and ongoing maintenance of SSAS cubes and SSRS reports, documentation of database system specifications and connectivity diagrams, and formalizing design best practices. The program also delivered end-user training on using SSRS with SSAS cubes, establishing report ownership and change control processes for reporting artifacts.
