In 2017, Ringier implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its core ERP Financial platform to consolidate and standardize financial operations across its global media portfolio. The program replaced a 20 year old SAP ERP ECC 6.0 environment and added SAP Business Warehouse and SAP BusinessObjects Analytics to establish a single source of truth and real time insight across departments.
The implementation configured SAP S/4 HANA alongside SAP Business Warehouse for unified master data and reporting, and deployed SAP BusinessObjects for business intelligence and analytics. Financial reporting workflows were restructured to move away from individually prepared Microsoft Excel statements for each legal entity, enabling standardized data structures and uniform accounting processes to meet Swiss GAAP FER requirements for annual recurring revenue.
Operational coverage extended across Ringier group structures in 16 countries, spanning roughly 100 companies with more than 90 consolidated entities included in reporting. The technical architecture centralized transactional finance and analytics, providing transparency and flexibility to create systems for new business units while supporting functions such as invoicing, procurement planning, and consolidated financial close.
Governance changes focused on process standardization and consolidation, with data model harmonization in SAP Business Warehouse and role based access for controlled financial reporting. Ringier leveraged in house SAP expertise to manage the program, and documented plans to automate intercompany manuals and to adopt SAP Fiori applications for process mapping to further digitize invoicing and procurement flows.
Ringier reported achieving a single source of truth and increased transparency through the combined SAP S/4 HANA and SAP BW deployment, and positioned the platform as a foundation to digitalize additional processes. Future plans include digital procurement using SAP Ariba Buying, broader SAP S/4 HANA rollouts and selective use of SAP Business ByDesign in Asia and Africa to extend the ERP Financial footprint.
