Siemens Digital Industries Software Legacy Siemens Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management PLM and Engineering n/a 2001 2001
In 2001 Schlatter Group began using Siemens Teamcenter as its Product Lifecycle Management platform. Schlatter Group is a Swiss manufacturer of resistance welding and weaving machines with development and production sites in Schlieren and Münster and a technical population that adopted Teamcenter as the central system for product data management. Siemens Teamcenter is used by 135 authors to store, administer and version product-related data and to execute internal approval procedures. The installation includes Teamcenter change management and the Teamcenter CAPA issue portal, and it is closely aligned with Schlatter’s NX CAD ecosystem where engineers use NX, NX Weld Assistant, NX Sheet Metal Design, NX Schematics and NX CAM for design, simulation and manufacturing support. Architecturally the deployment incorporates a bidirectional Tesis interface between Teamcenter and the ERP system to exchange master data and bills of materials, and Schlatter also leverages Teamcenter Gateway for Enterprise Applications and Teamcenter Gateway for SAP S/4HANA to keep engineering and materials management synchronized. This integration enables automatic transfer of approved change results to the ERP system and allows cross‑domain collaboration without forcing users out of their primary Teamcenter work environment. Operational coverage includes engineering, quality assurance, production and commissioning across Schlatter sites. Governance and workflow restructuring centered on moving the continuous improvement process into Teamcenter change management with a simplified web user interface to maximize adoption by shop floor and commissioning staff. Issues are triaged into three categories, No problem, External cause and Internal technical problem, with supplier complaints generated for external causes and internal problems creating change requests that are automatically enriched with required item and document data and routed to product development. All responsibilities are recorded electronically in read-only records and signatures are created at process completion to support traceability. Explicit outcomes reported by Schlatter include accelerating cycle time for implementing changes by more than 25 percent, improved transparency and enhanced product quality with reduced quality costs. In the first six months about 300 issues were reported, generating 46 internal change requests of which 30 were completed, and the organization recorded a reduction of bureaucratic activity by roughly 10 to 15 minutes or about 25 percent per issue. Siemens Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management provided the integrated issue, change and quality framework that Schlatter used to unify workflows and increase responsiveness.
