Coupa Software Legacy Coupa Invoice AP Automation ERP n/a 2018 2018
In 2018 Service Corporation International implemented Coupa Invoice to modernize AP Automation for accounts payable across its funeral, cremation and cemetery operations in the United States and Canada. The deployment was part of a broader adoption of the Coupa Business Spend Management platform that consolidated procurement and financial workflows to deliver real-time visibility into roughly $2 billion of annual spend, reaching 90% visibility for senior procurement leaders. The implementation package included Coupa Procure, Coupa Invoice, Coupa Expense and Coupa Source, with configuration centered on centralized requisition workflows, automated invoice capture and matching, expense controls and regional catalog management. Coupa Invoice’s simple, Amazon-like interface was selected to support rapid onboarding of employees from acquired funeral homes, enabling new sites to be brought onto enterprise systems within weeks with minimal training. Architecturally the solution was deployed as a cloud-based BSM platform integrated with SCI’s enterprise applications, including Oracle Cloud Financials, Workday and the company point-of-sale systems, enabling automated merchandise purchase orders and seamless data extraction across systems. The cloud deployment removed the need for additional server bandwidth as user counts scaled, supporting approximately 2,000 daily Coupa users while preserving continuous operation during upgrades. Governance changes standardized purchasing policies and approval workflows, centralizing spend controls while allowing regional product customization to reflect local funeral customs. Outcomes explicitly reported by SCI include 90% spend visibility across $2 billion in annual spend, a 3X reduction in requisition cycle time from 6 hours to 2 hours, near-zero disruption during Coupa upgrades and a shift to standardized, automated AP processing that freed staff to focus on core service delivery.

Microsoft Legacy Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) Analytics and BI Analytics and BI n/a 2015 2018
In 2015, Service Corporation International implemented Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) as its Analytics and BI platform to centralize operational and manufacturing reporting across IT and business teams. The deployment focused on providing IT and Helpdesk an administrative application to maintain Business Units, Facilities, Roles, Users and User Security, while simultaneously delivering production reporting for plants and business units. Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) was configured to deliver SSRS report suites for raw materials and finished goods reporting, DevEx dashboards to surface inactive users and license usage, and analytical models using SSAS to support formula and sales analysis. SSIS was used for complex ETL orchestration, addressing multiple database sources and transformation workflows required to produce DevEx dashboards and GHS reports. Integrations were built against multiple databases to support report development and data flow tasks, with explicit work to map formulas to selling numbers using ingredient lists and sales data. Operational coverage included the BI team, IT and Helpdesk, plant operations and business units, and the platform supported iterative dashboard changes and data transformation adjustments requested by stakeholders. Implementation governance included a project plan for execution of the GHS reports, DevEx dashboards and the Doc 3 Project, and the BI team retained responsibility for ongoing dashboard updates, ETL changes and security maintenance. Role based user and security management was embedded into the administrative application to align operational access with support and business workflows.
