Microsoft Legacy Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations ERP Financial ERP Columbus 2018 2018
In 2018, SMART Technologies implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as its core ERP Financial platform. The ERP Financial deployment was led with Columbus and integrated Oracle Agile PLM into Dynamics using the To-Increase PLM integration solution, preserving SMART’s existing PLM investment while moving ERP to Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. The implementation established a central Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations instance with the To-Increase PLM integration layer functioning as middleware to synchronize product data and lifecycle events. Functional capabilities extended beyond out of the box ERP Financial modules to include product master synchronization, bill of materials and engineering change management workflows, and supply chain inventory and procurement orchestration, enabling Dynamics to surface PLM-driven data that standard Dynamics did not provide. Integrations were explicit, bringing Oracle Agile PLM records into Dynamics via the To-Increase platform, while the program replaced a decade old Oracle E-Business Suite ERP that had significant custom code and licensing overhead. The integration created bidirectional data flow for configuration and change information, improving visibility across SMART’s global supply chain operations which serve education, business and government sectors. Governance and rollout included SI/VAR coordination with Columbus and application-level ownership within SMART, represented by application analysts configuring the To-Increase mappings and Dynamics workflows. As stated by SMART, the integrated solution reduced data redundancy and error rates, improved control and visibility of PLM driven actions inside the ERP, streamlined global supply chain processes and supported higher customer satisfaction.

Workday Legacy Workday Absence Management Absence and Leave Management HCM n/a 2018 2018
In 2018, Smart Technologies implemented Workday Absence Management. Workday Absence Management was deployed as part of Smart Technologies' broader Workday HCM footprint, which includes Recruiting, Payroll, Compensation, Benefits, and Time & Absence. The deployment covered the company employee base of approximately 1,000 in Canada, and is classified under the Absence and Leave Management category. The implementation configured standard absence plans, leave types, eligibility rules, entitlements, and configurable calendars to reflect company policy and statutory requirements. Approval workflows and absence scheduling were instrumented to connect with Time tracking functions in Workday, ensuring a single source of truth for employee time and absence records. Workday Absence Management was also aligned with Compensation and Benefits data to support eligibility checks and pay treatment, using typical Absence and Leave Management functional linkages within an HCM suite. Operational ownership is centralized under the internal Workday system manager who coordinates HR, payroll, and benefits processes, and enforces role based access and governance. Rollout and ongoing support are organized inside HR and payroll operations, with built in reporting and compliance controls in the Workday tenant to provide auditability and consistent absence reporting across the organization.
