In 2024 Societa Acqua Lodigiana implemented WatchGuard Endpoint Security to introduce Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) capabilities alongside existing endpoint protection. The deployment targeted a 170 person IT user base supporting water supply and wastewater treatment operations across headquarters in Lodi and distributed branches and plants, aligning with the company requirement for a technical and economic comparison of EPP and EDR options prior to procurement.
The project configured WatchGuard Endpoint Security as an all in one cloud managed platform combining EPP and EDR functionality, with endpoint patch management enabled via WatchGuard Cloud and threat correlation provided by WatchGuard ThreatSync. Network protection was consolidated using two WatchGuard M390 firewalls installed in a cluster to provide IDS and IPS functionality, and Dimension was employed as the log manager for firewall telemetry and intrusion analysis.
Operational integration extended XDR style monitoring across firewalls, endpoints, users, and devices through WatchGuard ThreatSync, and multifactor authentication was implemented using AuthPoint to secure employee access. Devices and services were installed and configured by SysOps specialists at WatchGuard Gold Partner MPG SYSTEM, enabling centralized management of endpoint updates, detection alerts, and firewall events from the same cloud platform.
Governance and rollout followed the company code of ethics which mandated comparative evaluation of EPP and EDR components, and nine months after deployment all stated cybersecurity objectives were achieved. The IT organization reported faster patch cycles via endpoint patch management, improved visibility into blocked intrusion attempts through ThreatSync monitoring, and the consolidated feature set contributed to attainment of ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification.
Future developments noted by the IT organization include evaluating a managed detection and response service and extending endpoint protection to mobile devices over the next two years.
