In 2016, Sophos implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central to establish a global Core HR foundation across its professional services organization. The deployment targeted standardization of employee master data and organizational structures while enabling process redesign and incremental functionality increases to support multiple business functions.
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central was configured to deliver core HR workflows, employee profiles, organizational management and workforce lifecycle management. The program applied both agile and waterfall delivery practices, with scrum management and sprint-based releases used to drive configuration, testing and staged feature rollouts.
The implementation served as a central HR system integrated functionally with Finance, Supply Chain and Business Intelligence streams to support reporting and operational BAU across regions. Operational coverage was global, governed by a matrix team model with a lead who managed fifteen staff across local, near shore and offshore locations, and who coordinated demand and supply management for multiple projects and BAU streams.
Governance included vendor lifecycle management for approximately 25 IT vendors, oversight of audit compliance over three tier 1 systems, disaster recovery responsibilities and license compliance control. Financial stewardship was explicit, with capital budgets managed in excess of $3M and operating expense oversight of $1.2M, alongside ongoing process and vendor relationship management.

Operational coverage was concentrated across the entire Finance department, with the project team participating in process design and acceptance testing to align controls with existing finance operations. Governance changes included new process documentation and internal control procedures introduced alongside SAP Concur Travel, and the Finance team owned testing and support for ongoing configuration changes and control enforcement.
As part of the rollout, Sophos used the SAP Concur Travel implementation to support regulatory compliance efforts, and the project team was a key contributor in ensuring the whole Finance department met requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation.
