In 2014 Stupp Corporation implemented Microsoft Dynamics AX as an ERP Financial application to centralize accounting and reporting for its Stupp Coatings, LLC steel line pipe manufacturing operations in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The deployment focused on core financial controls and executive reporting, aligning the application to support monthly financial statement production, key performance indicator reports, monthly financial review and quarterly financial review workflows that feed the parent company in St. Louis.
Microsoft Dynamics AX was configured to support general ledger maintenance, standardized account reconciliations, journal entry preparation, accounts receivable invoicing and revenue credit processes, procurement-to-payment approvals, treasury management, and budgeting and quarterly forecasting cycles. The implementation also emphasized project-level financial reporting and management reporting capabilities to enable individual project performance tracking requested by finance leadership.
The AX deployment was implemented alongside Management Reporter for formatted financial statements and KPI packaging, with workflows designed to route procurement approvals through the controller and to document review and approval of tax schedules for sales tax, ad valorem tax, and industrial tax exemptions. Operational coverage extended across the finance organization, the controller function, and executive stakeholders, and placed the controller as the lead representative for external audit interactions with UHY.
Governance and process changes were formalized through policies and procedures embedded in system workflows, including procurement approval gates, standardized close and reconciliation processes, and retained controls over invoice and rebate approvals. The controller led IS and IT initiatives to enhance reporting and forecasting, and used Microsoft Dynamics AX and Management Reporter to develop new reports and to continually improve the budgeting and financial reporting process.
