| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2018 | 2020 |
In 2018 Sunoco Lp implemented SAP S/4 HANA as an ERP Financial application. The deployment targeted core finance and accounting workflows at Sunoco LP, a subsidiary of Energy Transfer, with a focus on the financial close and statutory reporting processes. Implementation activity spanned initial configuration through integration and testing phases driven by finance stakeholders.
SAP S/4 HANA was configured to support a comprehensive financial close and reporting schedule, increasing automation, improving close efficiency and enhancing management transparency. Configuration work emphasized period end close orchestration, financial reporting rules and automation of recurring journal processing consistent with ERP Financial capabilities. The Accounting Manager on the program assisted in developing the close schedule and automation improvements during the implementation period.
Integration and testing governance was a primary operational focus, with the Accounting Manager serving as Integration and Testing Lead, defining testing parameters, leading daily test execution and escalating critical issues to Program Leadership. Testing activities established an execution cadence for end to end validation of financial processes and close controls, and formalized issue escalation paths into program governance. This testing posture aligned with standard ERP Financial validation and go live readiness practices.
Governance and audit readiness were reinforced through the new close schedule and testing protocols, and the implementation team supported annual SOX audits with no significant findings. The project reshaped accounting and finance workflows, reporting governance and program level controls, embedding routine testing and close management into ongoing operational practice.
