In 2018, The CSL Group implemented Oracle Cloud ERP as its ERP Financial platform to modernize finance, human resources, and procurement and support a broader organizational realignment. CSL engaged IBM Services to deploy Oracle Cloud ERP alongside Oracle HCM Cloud using a cloud deployment model, aligning the technical rollout with concurrent structural changes to the business.
The deployment included configuration of core financial and HR modules, specifically general ledger, accounts payable, cash management, fixed assets, human capital management, and procurement, with subsequent plans to deploy Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud. IBM Services applied the IBM Oracle Cloud Agile Implementation Method to prioritize applications for cloud migration, scope functionality to meet a tight deadline, and phase later releases to reduce risk and preserve project focus.
Operational integration extended to business intelligence objectives, with the Oracle Cloud ERP implementation positioned to pull financial, commercial, and operational data into CSL Group's analytics platform, and to provide a foundation for future Internet of Things initiatives on shore and at sea. IBM supported the engagement through its Client Innovation Center in Montréal, providing application development and cloud migration guidance to accelerate adoption.
Governance and process changes were driven by heavy involvement from finance and procurement during vendor evaluation and by a phased rollout designed to align application configuration with the new organizational structure. Workflow automation was introduced in accounts payable through workflow-driven invoice approvals and email approval notifications for managers, reducing manual touchpoints and shifting IT focus away from day to day application maintenance.
Explicit outcomes reported include streamlined, automated accounts payable workflows, faster handling of foreign currency conversions, accelerated report generation through consolidation of financial reporting tools, reduced application management burden, and an established platform for enhanced analytics and budgeting. These capabilities position Oracle Cloud ERP as the ERP Financial backbone supporting CSL Group's first wave of operational modernization.

In 2018, CSL Group implemented Oracle Cloud HCM to modernize Core HR as part of a broader Oracle Cloud deployment covering finance, human resources, and procurement. The Oracle Cloud HCM implementation was executed in parallel with Oracle ERP Cloud to align applications to a new organizational structure and strategic realignment of core back-office functions.
The deployment included modules and configurations for human capital management alongside finance components, specifically general ledger, accounts payable, cash management, fixed assets, and procurement. Automation and workflow capabilities were configured in accounts payable to enable workflow-driven invoice approvals with email notifications and one-click manager approvals, and finance teams reported faster handling of foreign currency conversions.
IBM Services served as the implementation partner, applying the IBM Oracle Cloud Agile Implementation Method to prioritize cloud deployment of specific applications and to deliver end-to-end application development and guidance. The engagement leveraged IBM resources including the IBM Client Innovation Center in Montréal, enabling a phased, cloud-first architecture that freed the internal IT team to focus on core business activities while Oracle Cloud environments were provisioned and configured.
Governance and rollout emphasized heavy user involvement from finance and procurement, strict scoping to core requirements, and phased delivery with deferred functionality for later waves. Explicit outcomes documented in the program include reduced manual work through automation, the ability to sunset the two systems currently used to support financial reporting, and establishment of a foundation for expanded analytics, Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud deployment, and future Internet of Things initiatives.
