In 2008 The Highland Council implemented Honeywell Public Address & Voice Alarm at Drummond School in Inverness as a Fire Alarm and Life Safety System to strengthen on-site emergency communications across the school estate in the Highland region. The installation used the Honeywell Morley-IAS Comprio D1 Public Address and Voice Alarm PA/VA product to deliver clear, phased evacuation and emergency messaging as part of the school life-safety strategy. This deployment was explicitly scoped to Drummond School, serving site safety and emergency response needs for the school campus in Highland Scotland.
The implementation architecture centered on a Comprio D1 control and amplifier platform feeding a distributed loudspeaker network, configured into evacuation zones to support phased evacuation and priority voice messaging. The Honeywell Public Address & Voice Alarm deployment included capabilities common to a Fire Alarm and Life Safety System such as zone-based public address, live microphone priority, pre-recorded emergency messages, and fault monitoring to ensure availability during an incident. System configuration and commissioning were aligned to school evacuation plans, with zone maps and message routing tailored to classroom, circulation, and assembly areas.
Operational governance placed system ownership with campus facilities and safety leads, integrating the PA/VA system into the school health and safety regime and emergency procedures. Staff training and procedural updates were part of the rollout to ensure effective use of phased evacuation and emergency messaging in real incidents and drills. The documented outcome for the installation was improved clarity of evacuation announcements and a formalized emergency communications capability for Drummond School.
