In 2017 The University of British Columbia implemented Workday Financial Management as its ERP Financial application, initiating a multi-domain program that encompassed finance, human resources and student administration. The program enacted a migration from Oracle PeopleSoft ERP for the finance function and established Workday Financial Management as the central platform for core financial operations across campus units.
Configuration focused on standard ERP Financial capabilities, including core general ledger ledgers, accounts payable and receivable workflows, procurement and supplier invoicing orchestration, and consolidated financial reporting. Workday Financial Management was configured to support financial controls, chart of accounts rationalization and period-end close automation consistent with higher education accounting workflows.
The implementation narrative identifies explicit cross-stream coordination with HCM and Student efforts, with HCM and Finance in the Architect Stage and Student in the Planning Stage during the program timeline. Data migration and integration planning referenced the Oracle PeopleSoft ERP footprint to preserve transactional continuity while shifting master data and chart structures into Workday.
UBC engaged JJH Consulting to provide strategic advisory services for the duration of the project, delivering Project Leadership Support, Workday Optimization Planning Analysis, Readiness Support and Workday alignment. Advisory scope included program governance design, readiness assessments and alignment of finance process workflows to Workday capabilities, supporting coordinated rollout sequencing across finance, HR and student administrative functions.
