The deployment targets post production vehicle processing across seven strategically located vehicle distribution hubs in Europe, orchestrating tens of thousands of operations on thousands of vehicles per day to support final installations and inspections before retail delivery.
The implementation centers on a scheduling and optimization engine using Constraint Programming and advanced heuristics provided through FICO Xpress Optimization. The solution is configured to solve complex, heterogeneous scheduling problems in a few minutes each day, produce multiple candidate plans, and allow planners to select the best option, while also supporting reoptimize runs after manual amendments.
Artelys implemented functional capabilities to maximize task throughput within each hub, explicitly modeling constraints such as restricted vehicle movements inside facilities, legal working hour limits, task prioritization, optional overtime, and crew assignment diversification. The work planning capability organizes the daily sequencing of final installations and inspections and surfaces plan differences so planners can analyze and retain operational flexibility rather than being presented with an unexplained black box.
Operational rollout emphasized user acceptance and planner validation, with the daily optimization output designed to allow sufficient time for human review and adjustment prior to execution. The operational scope covers workshop planning and logistics orchestration across the seven hubs, and the solution supports on the fly reoptimization when end users make manual changes to schedules.
Explicit outcomes stated in the implementation narrative include a reduction in the manual scheduling time from three hours per hub to roughly 20 minutes, improved hub efficiency, reduced delivery lead times, and a lower carbon footprint for vehicle logistics operations.
