In 2019, TravelCenters of America implemented Salesforce Field Service (ex ClickSoftware) for Field Service Management as the core platform for its RoadSquad Replacement Project, consolidating roadside truck service operations onto a single field service platform. The deployment centralized dispatch, work order orchestration, and mobile technician execution under Salesforce Field Service (ex ClickSoftware).
Configuration work emphasized work order management, dynamic scheduling and rostering, technician mobile workflows for onsite service execution, and in-vehicle parts and inventory tracking tailored to roadside service use cases. Automation layers were configured for appointment booking, service level monitoring, and real-time status updates using Field Service Management workflow and orchestration capabilities.
The technical architecture used Mulesoft as the integration layer, with the team developing more than 20 APIs to expose and synchronize service records, job statuses, and asset identifiers between Salesforce Field Service (ex ClickSoftware) and the companys backend systems. The integration approach was API-led, and development activities were organized in a mixed offshore and onshore delivery model, led by a technical lead who managed six developers.
Project governance centralized API strategy, sprint planning, testing coordination, and deployment sequencing under the technical lead. Operational governance formalized dispatcher and technician workflows, introduced centralized incident handling and change control for field service procedures, and applied phased onboarding across RoadSquad roadside operations.
