In 2019 United Airlines deployed Coupa Invoice as an AP Automation solution to centralize station-level invoice processing and purchasing administration. The deployment focused on using Coupa Invoice for administration, review, monitoring and dissemination of all local station invoices and for administering station purchasing, including vendor interactions.
Coupa Invoice was configured to support invoice capture, validation, workflow routing and approval processes consistent with AP Automation best practices, while station administrators retained control of vendor setup and invoice dissemination workflows. Functional usage emphasized invoice lifecycle management, exception handling and routed approvals to enforce local invoice controls at the station level.
Operationally the implementation covered station operations functions where teams also develop and maintain advance work schedules using computer-generated volume data and staffing guidelines, generate statistical reports for budgets, forecasts and performance, and manage local office technology troubleshooting and escalation. Station administrators additionally tracked and ensured completion of onboarding duties such as assignment of system access, lockers, mailboxes, uniforms, badges, fingerprinting and role-specific training, aligning administrative processes with AP and station operating workflows.
Governance was executed through designated local AP administrators who administered Coupa Invoice at the station level, overseeing invoice review cycles, vendor purchasing activity and dissemination of invoicing information across station teams. The narrative reflects United Airlines Coupa Invoice AP Automation being embedded into station purchasing and invoice governance, with operational controls managed by local administrators rather than through external implementation partners.

In 2017 United Airlines implemented Infor Lawson Absence and Leave Management to support HR and payroll absence workflows within its broader Lawson estate. The deployment was administered and maintained alongside Lawson HR Payroll, Infor Talent, and Compensation modules in a clustered environment, providing daily production support for the Data Capture Application and the Lawson ERP System. This implementation resides in the Absence and Leave Management category and served HR/Payroll business functions across the organization.
The implementation configured Infor Talent Management with Infor HR Management to create employee-facing links that surface personal HR data such as paychecks, direct deposit information, W-4 details, current benefits, and leave balances. Time and attendance processes and policies were maintained and updated within Lawson HCM, and fit gap analysis led to drafted concept papers for identified enhancements. The project used standard SDLC discipline and assisted Product Owners in Agile Scrum based development while mentoring business analysts and documenting configuration and program change requirements.
Reporting and analytics were delivered using Lawson Business Intelligence for publishing custom Crystal Reports and through bespoke MS Access reporting for Human Resources. The MS Access reports included compensation detail, compensation summary, pay increase summaries, and employee listings, and monthly metric reports were produced using SQL queries and tabulated in Excel. Data uploads and table changes were handled using Microsoft add ins for batch additions, deletions, and updates.
Integrations explicitly included Infor Talent Management, Infor HR Management, Lawson Business Intelligence, the Data Capture Application, and the Lawson ERP System. Functional design and code development for enhancements were coordinated with an off shore development team, and continuous monitoring of Lawson security accounted for observation of data flows, event assessment, and usage tracking for personnel and planners. Training was provided for new HR employees and business systems evaluations were completed for version upgrades and initial Lawson implementations.
Governance and documentation workstreams produced Business Requirements Documents, Functional Requirements documents, use case specifications using Requisite Pro, system requirement specifications, system design documents, traceability matrices, and testing strategies. Process flow and activity diagrams were prepared in MS Visio, and UML and business process modeling artifacts such as use cases, activity diagrams, and sequence diagrams supported re engineering and process improvement recommendations. Functional requirements specifications guided configuration work and program changes for the Infor Lawson Absence and Leave Management solution.

In 2017 United Airlines implemented Exterro Zapproved ZDiscovery to support Legal Practice Management for its corporate Legal Department based in Chicago. The initiative was driven by Legal Ops and internal stakeholders to formalize e-discovery and matter-centric workflows within the Legal Department, aligning the Exterro Zapproved ZDiscovery application to legal intake and review processes common to the category.
Requirements and configuration work focused on detailed process workflows, use cases, mock-ups and user stories, with business process documentation and workflow charts produced to guide configuration. The implementation team developed interface and GUI screen designs, defined data migration rules and captured functional requirements in a formal Business Requirements Document, reflecting system design elements needed for Exterro Zapproved ZDiscovery.
Testing and operational readiness included creation of test plans and a test strategy, participation in functional testing with the QE team and defect logging using Team Foundation Server for tracking and remediation. The project scope covered Legal Ops and legal stakeholders, with the senior business analyst role coordinating requirements gathering sessions, stakeholder communication and end user collaboration to build comprehensive test cases and acceptance criteria.
Governance artifacts and process controls were established through requirement traceability across project stages, iterative documentation of use cases and interface designs, and ongoing training and guidance for business owners to adopt the new Legal Practice Management workflows. The implementation emphasized formal requirements management, cross-functional stakeholder alignment and structured testing practices to operationalize Exterro Zapproved ZDiscovery within United Airlines legal operations.
